An inmate died at the Athens-Clark County Jail, according to a press release from the Clark County Mayor’s office.
44-year-old Calvin Jamin Cunningham collapsed at around 2:50 pm. While climbing the stairs in a housing unit in the prison, according to the statement. After lawmakers and medical personnel attempted to stabilize his condition, Cunningham was hospitalized by EMS and pronounced dead.
The statement said Cunningham was being held for a misdemeanor misdemeanor under supervision.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death, according to the statement, but early reports of the accident show that Mr. Cunningham died of natural causes.
According to the statement, Cunningham’s body will undergo a medical examination at the GBI Crime Lab.
